Redefining the work environment

LemayMichaud was commissioned for the design and development of a new corporate layout for a public institution. Spanning 1383 m², the project aims to transform the work environment towards an Activity-Based Working (ABW) model.

The project was intended to be exemplary and tailored to the actual needs of professionals, promoting thoughtful spaces in response to new hybrid work realities and hoteling positions, thus constituting a powerful change management tool.

The mandate, structured in several phases, included office space planning, programming, and functional analysis exercises, the redesign of VP and presidential suites, the conversion of restroom blocks into gender-neutral facilities, updating the building envelope, reconfiguring the generator room, and the environmental graphic design.

The new offices align with the ongoing and future phases of the headquarters' renovations. This visual and functional coherence is reflected in a timeless, chic and modern aesthetic, with an emphasis on black and white.

A flexible and timeless design

The open spaces, bathed in white, offer flexible, unassigned workstations where abundant fenestration democratizes natural light for all occupants. Sliding panels adorned with regional cultural iconography related to transportation allow these large spaces to be tailored as needed.

Subspaces are delineated by dark blocks and soft ceiling treatments, ensuring an optimal, comfortable sound environment. A variety of furniture, suited for different functions, guides users towards the central core of the spaces to encourage meetings and interaction.

Closed offices are centralized, bringing together work areas requiring greater confidentiality. This central block of shared offices and meeting rooms serves as a pivot around which circulation is organized, integrating storage lockers for personal belongings, thus facilitating shared workspace. Retractable glass walls enable conference room modularity, facilitating communication and collaboration.

The distinction of the spaces is marked by both dark and bright tones, creating dynamic, contrasting atmospheres. Deep blue, introduced as accents in the common areas, adds an elegant touch to the environment. The kitchen, central hub connecting all spaces, is imbued with the same hue and crossed by a diagonal axis that links the various sub-areas.

In a structured network manner, the new spaces provide users with flexibility, adaptability, and the timelessness of environments that are both efficient and unifying, setting the stage for the offices of tomorrow.
