A rehabilitation initiative for a historic site

Réal Paul Architecte's project regarding the rehabilitation of the Place des Nations area at Parc Jean-Drapeau included both the development of a functional and technical program (PFT) and a preliminary study. The main objective of these studies was to define the guidelines for the revitalization of this emblematic historic site of Expo 67. Although neglected over the years, the Place des Nations retained its great heritage and cultural value, justifying an in-depth analysis of its potential to become once again a place for public gatherings and activities.

The functional and technical program detailed the site's specific needs, including the rehabilitation of the five ancillary buildings and the development of an outdoor amphitheatre. The preliminary study provided a technical analysis of the existing facilities, enabling a full technical audit to be carried out. This audit proved essential in assessing the state of the infrastructure and proposing rehabilitation solutions adapted to the site's heritage constraints.

At the same time, an in-depth heritage study was carried out to draw up a conservation plan, focusing on the preservation of historic elements, while allowing for functional updating. The plan also redefined circulation within the site and with the rest of the Parc Jean-Drapeau, taking into account active modes of transport and reaffirming visual links with the St. Lawrence River and Lac des Cygnes.
