Clinique dentaire Geneviève Lafrance

Located on the ground floor of an existing building, the new Clinique Dentaire Geneviève Lafrance in Rivière-du-Loup redefines the conventions of medical environments by immersing visitors in an atmosphere of well-being. 

Far from the sterile references typically associated with dental care, the design evokes the calming world of a spa, achieved through a balance of fluid spatial organization, enveloping materials, and subtle lighting.

The floor plan is structured around two central wooden cores housing the main clinical functions. Wrapped in pale wood, these volumes intuitively guide movement while establishing a clear, one-way circulation. This approach prevents crossings between arriving and departing patients, ensuring a serene and seamless flow. 

Treatment rooms are positioned along the perimeter, benefiting from generous natural light through large new openings. Above, interior glazing allows daylight to filter into the heart of the clinic, reinforcing the sense of openness and horizontal continuity.

Materiality lies at the very heart of the project. Wood dominates the space, creating a continuous envelope that softens the experience and humanizes the clinical setting. Rounded corners—particularly visible in the circulation areas—underscore a design intent centered on fluidity and softness. In contrast, natural stone at the reception and payment counters grounds the design in a sense of timelessness and refinement. In the waiting area, the raw texture of cream-colored concrete is paired with seating covered in wool and felt, offering a tactile and welcoming experience.

At the core of the reception stands a circular volume in vertical felt, serving as both a sculptural centerpiece and a functional element. Suspended in space, it acts as a visual landmark and a soft divider between waiting and treatment areas. Its rhythmic surface captures both natural and artificial light, creating delicate shadows that shift throughout the day. The effect, gentle yet vibrant, brings a dynamic quality to the space while discreetly incorporating hidden storage.

In the circulation areas, the linear ceilings extend the perspective, accentuating depth, while punctual lighting sets the rhythm of the space. Clear wood frames, precisely aligned, articulate the volumes and strengthen the sense of material continuity. Administrative offices are framed by pale wood and pristine white surfaces, reflecting a minimalist aesthetic where functionality meets visual clarity.

The clinic’s visual identity conveys reassurance and care, designed to support highly personalized services. Defined by curves and refined detailing, it embodies sensitivity and attention to every step of the patient journey.

A palette of soft, muted colors enhances this calm and elegant atmosphere. Wayfinding, designed in harmony with the overall identity, embraces a discreet and mature graphic language: minimalist and unobtrusive, it integrates seamlessly without overwhelming the environment. The graphic motif, subtly inspired by a smiling profile, appears on glazed surfaces, balancing privacy and transparency, and forging a dialogue between brand expression and spatial experience.

Through its refined spectrum of beiges and creams, minimalist lines, and interplay of textures, the clinic demonstrates a rare ability to reconcile medical precision with architectural sensibility. More than a place of care, it offers an immersion into a world of light and materials, where the human experience is placed at the center, and every visit becomes calm, reassuring, and almost contemplative.
